Tripod: A Lengthy Coming-of-Age Story

Teased for being short and ethnically mixed, closeted high school senior Jaime Fine-Cruz just wanted to blend into the background. But he hid a huge secret that he was convinced would ruin his life if it was ever discovered. Then one day, after gymnastics practice, an impulsive move by a teammate makes Jaime’s deepest fear a reality. Forced to reckon with his new-found fame, Jaime embarks on a path of self-discovery and empowerment to find that the things that made him different are strengths and not weaknesses. Over the course of a school year, Jaime and his friends deal with the perils of coming out, racial profiling, and bullying, among other challenges of contemporary life. They also learn that being able to laugh at yourself, admitting when you need help, and keeping an open mind about sex and sexuality can be keys to happiness.
