From the Publisher
How does this book differ from other books on cloud computing?
What makes the book a unicorn is its “self-taught” approach. With detailed explanations of cloud concepts and step-by-step lab elaborations, it systematically guides readers to learn cloud computing and develop essential cloud skills at their own pace.
I’ve designed this book to be both practical and case-driven. It doesn’t just introduce the basics, it provides comprehensive tutorials that guide readers through the major cloud world platforms, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. These tutorials are enriched with real-world industrial examples and business use cases, assisting readers to not only learn but also apply cloud technology in the real world.
Thorough illustrations and examples are included with young students and professionals in mind to help them explore the cloud world, jump-start a cloud career, and advance in no time.
What are the key takeaways from this book?
This book starts with an in-depth exploration of the AWS cloud and then moves on to Azure and GCP, highlighting their commonalities and differences. It fills a unique niche that others have missed: mastering one domain and learning other domains through comparison.
By taking a vertical approach within each platform and then a horizontal approach across platforms, readers will gain a holistic view of the cloud ecosystem. They’ll develop a solid understanding of cloud concepts encompassing AWS, Azure, and GCP, and a systematic skill set in these main cloud platforms.
How has your experience helped you write this book?
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in enterprise information technology and cloud computing, I bring over thirty years of professional experience to this book. I’ve worked in almost all industrial sectors and government agencies, spanning the whole IT spectrum—from server operating systems, database management systems, IP networking, data storage networking, and virtualization technologies to hybrid and multi-cloud computing.
Additionally, my role as a distinguished adjunct professor in colleges and professional education centers has enabled me to explain and illustrate complex concepts clearly and in an easy-to-follow way. I’ve written this book to integrate my professional and educational expertise, and that may be why it was well-received by the cloud learning community.
What’s your favorite part of the book?
While learning the hard skills is essential in the cloud journey, soft skills like motivation and mindset act as super-catalysts in your cloud career expedition. In chapter 17 of the book, I’ve shared my cloud journey. This part covers my jumpstart inspired by Steve Jobs’ Stanford commencement speech, my consistent pursuit of excellence in AWS, the expansion from AWS to Azure and GCP in Set Solutions, and my leadership development in Dito LLC.
I hope these experiences encourage readers to build a successful career in cloud computing.
